What are the Library's hours?

Where is Ottenheimer library?

The Library is located in the middle of the UALR campus. It is the 5-story building west of the Donaghey Student Center.

Is the UALR Law Library on the main campus?

No. The W.H. Bowen School of Law is located downtown on McMath Avenue, just east of MacArthur Park.

Where may I park when I visit the campus?

There is a metered parking lot south of the Donaghey Student Center or you may use the parking deck located across Coleman Creek. The deck has a $1.00 exit fee. Change is available at the Circulation Desk.

Is library instruction available?

Where are Reference materials located?

1st floor.

Where are Government Documents located?

1st floor.

Where are audiovisual materials located?

5th floor in the Multimedia Information Technology (formerly known as Instructional Media Services) area.

Where are the Reserve materials for courses located?

1st floor. Materials placed on reserve by an instructor may be obtained from the Checkout Desk. See also: http://library.ualr.edu/catalog/reserve/.

Audiovisual media reserves are located in the Multimedia Information Technology department (formerly known as Instructional Media Services) on the 5th floor.

Where are journals located?

3rd floor. Journals are arranged in alphabetical order by title.

Where are the circulating materials located?

4th and 5th floors. Library of Congress call numbers beginning with A-PZ6 are on 4th floor. The sequence begins in the north west corner and ends in the middle of the floor on the east side. PZ6-Z call numbers are on 5th floor. This sequence begins on the south west side of the floor and ends at the Southeast side.

Where are the restrooms located in the Library?

1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th floors.

Where are the photocopiers in the Library?

1st, 3rd, and 5th floors. Copies cost ten cents a page. A copy card is five dollars. You may purchase a copy card from the Vendacoder near the main stairwell on 1st floor or from the Circulation Desk.

May I use my cell phone in the Library?

We allow cell phones, but ask that you remain courteous to other library users. Please go to the 1st floor lobby to complete calls.

Are computers available in the library?

  • The Library has computers on floors 1-5 for Catalog access.
  • Complete Internet access is available on the 1st floor to currently enrolled UALR students and faculty/staff with their University login and password for access.
  • There are 4 stand-up computers for public use near the Reference Desk.
  • E-mail is allowed only if no one is waiting to do research.
  • No word processing is available.

May I print from the Internet?

Printing from the Internet is managed by a system we call UniPrint. Each UALR student is given 25 copies for free at the beginning of each semester. When those copies are used up, printing is ten cents per page. Funds may be added to your account by using your UALR card at the Add-Value station located near the Reference Desk or at the Circulation Desk. Community users pay at the Circulation Desk.

Where may I print documents from a disk or an e-mail attachment?

Word processing as well as printing is available for UALR affiliates in the computer labs. See http://www.ualr.edu/labaide/

Is there a computer lab in the library?

Computing Services operates and staffs a computer lab in the Library. Only currently enrolled UALR students may use this facility. Word processing and specialized computer programs are available in the lab. The lab hours vary slightly from the Library hours. See http://www.ualr.edu/labaide/

Who may borrow Library materials and use Interlibrary Loan?

Do I have to get a library card?

The UALR Campus Card serves as your library card. Community Users may apply for a Friends of the Library Membership card.

May journals be checked out?

They may not, but we encourage use of our photocopiers.

May videocassettes, DVDs, or CDs be checked out?

Books on tape and CD, videocassettes, DVDs, music CDs, and government document CDs and DVDs may be checked out through Multimedia Information Technology (formerly Instructional Media Services) on the 5th floor.

How many books may I check out?

Does the library charge fines for overdue books?

How do I renew my library materials?

As a UALR student, may I check out books from another university in Arkansas?

How do I find a book in the library?

The on-line catalog lists everything owned by the Library. You may look up a book by author, title, subject, or keyword. The location is noted in the catalog entry along with the availability.

Where do I locate the books that I find in the catalog?

What if the book I want is checked out?

Select the Request button on the bottom of the page in the catalog and you will be prompted for your name and identification number. See Circulation staff if you need assistance. A Reference librarian may also help you to see what other local libraries have the item.

Does the library own textbooks?

The library does not regularly purchase the textbooks that are required for UALR classes. In some cases professor place a copy on Reserve. See http://library.ualr.edu/catalog/reserve/
