The library is composed of ten departments that employ students part-time (10-20 hours per week). Job duties vary for each department.
Each department head does his/her own interviewing, and hiring.
When a department head has an opening, they will request the application file and contact you by telephone if they choose to interview you.

Head of Acquisitions and Continuing Resources
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) invites applications for the position of Head of Acquisitions and Continuing Resources, req #: 538, a faculty appointment with rank leading to tenure. The successful candidate will provide leadership and expertise in all issues relating to the ordering and receipt of library materials. All library faculty are responsible for working collaboratively to achieve University and Library goals and objectives. In addition, faculty members must meet the requirements for tenure and promotion.
The position supervises 2.5 FTE staff; oversees the ordering and receipt of all library materials; supports budget planning through data gathering and analysis; produces reports; oversees expenditures and invoice payments; establishes and maintains relationships with publishers and vendors; works with Ottenheimer Library Administration, the Collection Development Librarian, and subject librarians regarding budgetary aspects of collection development; works with the Cataloging and Electronic Resources Librarian to enhance access to online resources; works with the Director of Technical Services to anticipate and plan for changes in the nature and scope of library acquisitions. The position reports to the Director of Technical Services and Technology.
The following qualifications are required: ALA-accredited MLS degree; two years professional library experience in an academic or research library; successful supervisory experience; experience in library acquisitions and serials management, including vendor relations and experience with a monograph approval plan; experience with management of electronic resources; experience with electronic ordering, invoicing and processing; demonstrated ability to manage detailed tasks; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with a broad range of staff within the library; knowledge of standards, trends and best practices in acquisitions, serials and electronic resources management. Desired qualifications include: experience with Innovative Interfaces, Inc.’s Millennium ILS system; accounting experience; experience with ERM applications; experience with OCLC PromptCat and/or shelf-ready vendor processing.

Director for Technical Services
The Ottenheimer Library of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) seeks a senior-level librarian to lead departments directly involved in the acquisition, organization and provision of information resources in all formats. The Director for Technical Services will provide vision for the departments of acquisitions, cataloging, serials, and information technology. The successful candidate will develop innovative programs to facilitate change and promote an environment of continuous improvement.
The Director of Technical Services reports directly to the Dean of the Library and works closely with other senior leaders who have responsibilities for Academic Services and Resources, Administrative Services, and Archive/Special Collections.
This is a faculty-status, tenure-track position. The successful candidate will be required to meet the Library’s criteria for promotion and tenure, which include librarianship, service and scholarship/research.
Located in Little Rock, Arkansas’ urban center, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is a state-supported metropolitan university.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide vision, direction and operational management for all technical service functions (acquisitions, cataloging, and serials.)Supervise and evaluate Heads of Acquisitions, Cataloging, and Information Technology.Coordinate technical services system activities and workflow with other areas of the library and university.Coordinate and plan for technological changes in the Library; oversee library staff responsible for maintenance and support of the Library’s on-line systems and computing equipment.Participate in library-wide programs such as collection development, assessment, and strategic planning.Take a leadership role, locally and nationally, in identifying and implementing new developments in the field through active participation in professional organizations./p>
REQUIREMENTS
ALA-accredited MLS; at least five years of professional experience in a research or academic library in technical services areas such as acquisitions, cataloging, serials, and information technology; demonstrated understanding of academic teaching and research needs; ability to view issues from a broad library-wide perspective; excellent interpersonal, communication, and planning skills.
Preferred: Evidence of three years successful management and supervision of librarians and paraprofessionals; experience with integrated library systems; proven skills in the application of technology to enhance effectiveness in technical services operations; experience with assessment of library services, strategic planning, and project management; second advanced degree; qualifications for appointment at rank of Associate Professor.

The Ottenheimer Library’s materials budget is in excess of $1 million annually. Its materials holdings include: nearly a half million monographs, 11,000 electronic books, access to over 28,000 electronic journals, 3,600 active periodical subscriptions, in excess of one million microforms, and more than 115 electronic databases. The Library’s integrated library system is Innovative Interfaces.
