Ottenheimer Library is committed to providing an atmosphere that promotes research and intellectual freedom, encourages access and the sharing of information, and provides a safe, non-hostile environment.
Access to all information is a privilege. Use of computer resources must be in a manner consistent with pertinent University policies, procedures, and codes of conduct, in addition to applicable federal, state and local laws. Using any computer indicates agreement with these policies and laws. Ottenheimer Library does not monitor or have control over the information accessed through the Internet. The Library does ask that its facilities be used wisely and carefully with consideration for the needs of others.
The following are deemed unacceptable uses of the equipment and/or software:
- Creating, displaying, or sending child pornography (18 USC 2252A)
- Any activity that is deliberately hostile, harassing or obscene.
- Using someone else's identity and password without their knowledge
- Using computers for commercial or “for-profit” purposes
- Unlawfully reproducing or distributing copyrighted materials (17 USC 101-810)
- Monopolizing or locking a computer, so as to prevent access by others
When computers are in full use, these users may be asked to relinquish their computer:
- Users playing games
- Children not enrolled at UALR
- Any person having spent more than one hour at one workstation
If computer users violate any of the unacceptable use provisions outlined in this document, their computer privileges could be terminated and future access may be denied. The user may be asked to logoff a computer and/or leave the premises. Some violations constitute a criminal offense and may result in legal action and/or other penalties as deemed necessary by the Dean of Students and/or University Police.
