STRATEGIC PLANNING RETREAT

The Library’s Strategic Planning Retreat was held on July 10th at the Bailey Alumni Center. All full-time Library employees attended the day-long event.
Dr. David Belcher, UALR’s Provost, emphasized the importance of the Library’s continued strategic planning and self-study.
Dr. Robert Sikes, Acting Dean of the Graduate College, noted that the Library’s resources must grow to support the research interests of new faculty.
Dr. Robert Mock, Director of Recruitment and Retention, stressed the Library’s role in being supportive of students.
Wanda Dole, Dean of the Library, introduced Julia Blixrud , from the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), who led attendees in a re-examination of the Library’s mission and vision statements.
Attendees next heard progress reports from the four task forces on strategic planning.
Linda Pine, Head of Archives, reported on Assessment.
Maureen James, Head of Collection Development, reported on the ARL Collection Analysis Project (CAP).
John Barnett, technician in Multimedia Information Technology, spoke on Training and Staff Development.
Suzanne Martin, Head of Administrative Services, reported on Facilities, specifically changes in the Library’s physical layout.
Christian O’Neal, Director of the Alumni Association, told how the Association can assist the Library’s outreach. Angela Elizandro , Major Gift Officer with the Office of Development, surveyed the possibilities for fund raising.
Everyone then participated in a general discussion, moderated by Julia Blixrud, of “the next steps” to be taken. With this look at new beginnings, the retreat came to an end.
